Don't You Alice Me (once again)

About the performance

The main premise for the actors of SNT Drama Maribor, Nataša Matjašec Rošker and Petja Labović, was the fact that Lewis Carroll was the first (and is still undisputed) master of nonsense literature. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass was the starting point of their leap down the rabbit hole, the ultimate space of play.

The journey through a familiar story is only an abstract associative frame that opens the field where the bridging of the generation gap and the divergences between actors and creators take place. The roles in the conceived theatrical performance, divided between a woman and a young man, in turn take many forms, such as rabbits, angels, seducers, sailors, but also non-Alice, a woman in more mature years who still does not want to accept her age.

The project has undergone many transformations during the pandemic of the Corona virus and the period of social distancing, incorporating many concepts and motifs from literature, film, music, visual arts and movement. In the rehearsal process, the actors were given tasks, mostly indirectly, by a series of directors whose ideas opened new doors and expanded horizons of the possible.

Through the fluctuation of witty, poetic, sharp, frenetic, documentary and surrealistic contrasts, the actors discovered many neuralgic points of human existence existing in linguistic pluralism.

The performance is 75 minutes long.
